Bitcoin founder identified himself
Craig Wright, Australian businessman, publicly identified himself as Bitcoin creator ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’.
The speculation over who invented the now-popular virtual currency went on for years, with the founder having been operating under the alias of Nakamoto.
Wright was able to provide technical evidence that he was indeed the founder during a meeting with the BBC by digitally signing messages using cryptographic keys created during the early stages of the currency’s development.
Wright also unveiled his identity to publications GQ and the Economist.
“These are the blocks used to send 10 Bitcoins to Hal Finney in January [2009] as the first Bitcoin transaction,” Wright said.
While several members from the Bitcoin community have confirmed Wright’s claims, others have requested the Australian businessman to provide further proof.
Wright’s unveiling comes after his home was raided by police last year, hours after Gizmodo and Wired published leaked transcripts of legal interviews that seemingly identified the Australian businessman as the founder.
Australian authorities, however, said the raids were not linked to the leaked interviews.
