California gets one step closer to legalise online poker
California is on the right course to become the fourth US state that will legalise and regulate online gambling. On the last meeting the bill AB 2863 was passed 19-0 by the Assembly Governmental Organization Committee.
Despite the unanimous decision, the bill has an opposition. Agua Caliente and Pechanga tribes are against the fact that ‘bad actors’ are allowed to in a regulated market. The term refers to the companies that didn’t pull out of the US after Gambling Enforcement Act was introduced beck in 2006.
The bill AB2863 is a result of joint efforts of Adam Gray and Reginald Jhons-Sawyer, who is an Assembly-member that sponsored AB 167 bill, which was introduced last year.
The basic assumptions of AB 2863 are that the first $60 mln generated each fiscal year, will be put in the California horse-racing industry and that the legal age would be 21.
Gray said: “After countless revisions and meetings with stakeholders and consumer advocates, there remained two key issues raised by opponents: horseracing and suitability.
Today we put forward language that settles the horse racing component, and negotiations over suitability continue.”
AB 2863 is going to be voted by Assembly Appropriations Committee. Two thirds of the votes are required for the bill to pass to the Senate.
