Gambling apps to be banned by Dutch regulators
Since any gambling apps targeting Dutch nationals within the country breach Dutch gambling laws, the Dutch regulator has requested Google and Apple to remove such applications.
According to reports, currently Dutch citizens have access to 49 real money applications which violate the Dutch gambling laws.
Martijn van de Koolwijk a spokesman from the regulator said: “Gambling is moving from computers to tablets, but as long as there is no regulation, it is illegal”.
However, the whole situation may change soon, as MPs are planning to discuss new laws which will regulate online gambling and give operators possibility to apply for licences. Until then, companies which break strict Dutch laws on gambling can be fined up to €810,000 or 10% of their annual profit. To comply with Dutch rules, Apple, Microsoft, Google and other companies will have to stop Dutch consumers being able to access the apps in their app shops, said van de Koolwijk.
